Rabbi Carl Woolf

Welcome

Thanks for visiting my/Carl's page.

I started in the ALEPH Ordination Program in 2010, and progressed steadily, gradually toward completion, while also continuing my 'day-job' of software engineering, and also some music-making activities. As 2020 draws to a close, I particularly appreciate my current internship as an interfaith chaplain at Brigham and Women's Hospital.

I am excited, honored, humbled, to be ordained as a Rabbi in our January 2021 virtual ceremony.

Work

And I am happy to share some of my work from the ordination program:

  • First of all, here is my Senior Teshuvah, about using music to support Shabbat or other services.

  • Tested on Chrome browser, my multi-media Zohar web-page lets you influence Sefirot as they dance in the cosmic G!d-field.

  • You might also enjoy my interpretation of Kohelet (the Book of Ecclesiastes).

Wisdom

I'm in the process of collecting some life wisdom. Here are some samples:

  • Reb Carl said in the spirit/name of Kedushat Levi and Rebbe Nachman: If exchanging ideas, adjust your mind to resonate with your interlocutor's. In a feelings- or soul-encounter, open your gates of empathy and spirit.

  • He cited Reb Tony Robbins: Avoid taking offense, since it's almost never about you. He also cited Reb Shefa Gold: You can learn from every story, every situation, since they always speak to something about you.

With Gratitude

And now for some other thanks:

Thanks to all my teachers, colleagues and supporters. I especially recall and recognize R' Elliot Ginsburg, my wise and deep Director of Studies; R' Nadya Gross, my deep and wise Spiritual Director; R' Shefa Gold, my dear friend/guru/spirit-buddy; R' Shawn Zevit, my perfect pillow-tosser; R' Shaya Isenberg, who saw me when no one else (including me) did; R' Nehemia Polen; whose grace fills my soul; R' Natan Margalit, who had good questions, and some answers for my Senior T'shuvah; my loving parents, for early support and guidance; my beloved early Jewish mentors, Mr. Edward Adler and Rosh Y'shivah R' Nachman Cohen; my polymath mentor in so many areas of life, Doctor Jerome Kutliroff; our whole graduating cohort, who have become a loving, cohesive little community; kitties: Sassy, Charly, Koli, Tuvi, whose claws and cuddles inspired and grounded me; and Dr. Sarah Crane, who helped get me started on my 'extra-ordination' adventure.

You are welcome to donate to ALEPH 'in honor of Carl' via my donation page. Any amount is welcome! The tax-deductible donations help support current and future ALEPH students. Thanks in advance for any donations.
